Patterns

Two of my favorite designers had teamed-up in 2020 to design a shawl pattern, the Kinship Shawl. Look at the beauty Olga Buraya-Kefelian (Olga-Jazz) and Stephen West have created ! They are Stolga – both Stephen and Olga 💛

What is new is that you can now get the pattern as a single one, and not in the Issue 35 from Pompom Magazine. The book is out of print and you can get digital copies only from the Pompom website or from Ravelry. If you are subscribed to Olga’s mailing list, you’ll find a code for 20% off.

Another monster shawl that my find its way to my queue or yours 😺

Free Pattern

Missmarple scarf from SusanneS-vV

After a complicated free pattern promotion last week, this is a much easier one. I had it for about two years in my library (my downloaded file is from Feb 2020) and had forgotten about it. Not long ago, I ran a search on Ravelry to prop up small scarves you can tie up the way MissMarple is, and I sorta remembered having a pattern in my library but for some reasons could not fin it..

I had placed another similar pattern in my queue but was not that certain I wanted to knit it. Irene, one of the beautiful ladies over at the 3 Ply Podcast just showed her MissMarple Scarf and, looking for it, not only did I find the one pattern I had in mind, but realised it was in my library and in my computer 🙀

Well, it is now in my queue and will probably fit in your 😺

Tutorial and New Word of the Day : Nostepinne

Vincent Williams (visuvios_crafts on Instagram) had me look for a word in one of his latest Instagram posts ; Nostepinne. I did not know that word, although I had already seen some here and there. A nice tool for winding yarn that I may add to my want list for this end of the year !

Go to the second pic to see it in action to wind yarn by hand. I usually use the cardboard roll from an empty kitchen paper roll, that could be a nice addition to my tools at some point 🙂

One tip I got from the video : wind the yarn 5 times before rotating the roll or stick. I did that on my latest cake, works nicely and is a bit easier on my hands.

Interviews And Knit Night

21 Hats Podcast on changing the face of the yarn industry

Let me start with what I usually finish with, the link to the Youtube interview of Felicia Eve, Gay Glasspie and Adella Colvin : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1Mgpc79H4s

It may be just enough for you if you want to spend another hour and a half filled with bright and smart conversation about the finer industry and influencers world. Amazing stories, sad ones, embarrassing ones, a lesson of life, friendship, community success (on how a whole community was able to raise twice as much that was needed to help Felicia to keep her store, in half a day), hard success, and most of all an optimistic message. most probably because that was the last question 🙂

Have a watch, have a listen, have a thought, have an understanding.

Selma from Little big knits raising money – the community is amazing

Selma decided the proceeds of her West Village Skirt pattern would go towards raising money for a charity (sorry, I did not grasp which one, you can watch the begging of her podcast episode below). It allowed her to raise $2700 which is amazing. Another community success story 💛

la bien aimée virtual knit night with les garçons

Another so enjoyable knit night that I unfortunately I could not follow live as I was at work. This time, LBA had invited Les Garçons, Maxim Cyr and Vincent Deslandes with whom she collaborates on a regular basis. Maxim has designed the Yesteryears sweater for the Worsted Book and it was another very nice moment when the test knitters were showcased and talked about their relationships with either Les Garçons, La Bien Aimée or both.

Aimée even sneak peaked the next Corie Confetti line in the Framboise colour. I won’t be much tempted as the bright pinks are not much of my choices for my wardrobe. I think I can skip the release without the regrets I had for the yellow or the grey first two editions.

You can watch the replay on LBA YouTube channel : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZbl1Ld6178&t=1s

As a side note, Les Garçons were looking for an assistant, so may be check their Instagram or website to see if the position is still available. Of course, you will have to be located in Montreal !

Book

When I first saw the book, I really wanted to preorder it. Being in a Yarn-No-Buy-Year with guidelines for everything fibre related, I did not buy it when it was in pre-order. It is now sold out, so I did not get it. I think I will miss it and look for reprints. You can browse and buy all of the 13 patterns from the book on its Ravelry page.
