Another Finished Object : A Little Beanie

Looking on my blog, it appears I had not posted bout the Gingham Neck Warmer in Double Knit by Gabriella Papale that took me so long to complete, so first let me digress about it for a minute.

Gingham Neck Warmer in Double Knit by Gabriella Papale

It all began with a birthday present my youngest son and his girlfriend gave me last year (2022). They went to Lil Weasel (she studies in Paris and they spend a lot of time there together) and got me two balls of DMC Woolly, a super wash DK merino, in both a sunflower yellow and a lilac lavender.

I spent some time looking around for a pattern and decided I was going to try double knitting for the first time. I had such a project in the back of my mind for almost a year. As a new knitting technique was not enough, I experimented it with colour work, this gingham pattern looked like a good and interesting idea. It was, and it really took me a long time to finish a very engaging project to say the least.

I am quite happy it is finished and enjoy wearing it. Now what to do with the remaining 2 balls, one of each colour, as the cowl only took one ball of the yellow and one ball of the lavender ? It was warm again when I finished the cowl and this question slept under the rug.

Now that the colder days are here and that my birthday month is here, I started to hear the calling of the two balls in their bag. It was time to find another pattern.

The pattern came to me quite unexpectedly. Hinterm Stein sent me a code for my birthday, enough for small accessory or the equivalent discount on a full garment pattern. After looking around her pattern store, I decided on the No Pompom Number 2, a cute beanie where you choose to knit a pompom and stuff it (which I did) or not.

A perfect little piece that took one ball of the lavender. I am so happy with it ! Now to know what to do with the remaining yellow one. Question for another time ☀️

Finished Object : Hiberknitting Hat for Paulin

My first finished object for Christmas is done ! My third son asked for an orange hat. I’ll make sure I’ll talk to him about the Iconic Orange Ladyggmadeit on Instagram. Side note, you should subscribe to her newsletter, always on point and interesting !

I chose the Hiberknitting Hat from Stephen West and yarn from my Fonty haul. I used one strand of Fonty Ambiance wool associated with one strand of Fonty Kidopale mohair in these bright orange colour ways. The Ambiance wool is a bit darker orange, the Kidopale mohair lights it up in a way I like much.

He just told me he did not like much a slouchy beanie, fortunately he will be able to fold the brim and make it tight on his head. the fabric is very soft, a bit dense and will be very warm. Now to write a proper washing (or not washing) instruction note to go with it 🙂
