Finished Object : Barbara Sweater

It took me two months of constant work to complete this one. And wearing it as I write brings me much joy.

The sweater has a lot of one of the beautiful you in it, because you offered me the book “Back To Tversed” by Marianne Isager and gave me inspiration. Only after I had decided to cast in the project did I find you had knit it too ! So double inspiration.

I used this Laine À L’Ouest sport weight undyed yarn from my Normandy I live so much. The darker brown is obtained mixing black, grey and creamy white fleeces, the light one is made with the lighter fleeces. There you have it.

The construction of the sweater reminds me of my teens. You start with the back, then cast on stitches on either side for the sleeves, then work decreases in mirror, and finish with the front.

The sides and underarms are then sewed. I did the collar twice. First time around it was too wide and I do not like that, being always cold in my neck. I ripped out, picked up the right amount of stitches and decreased about a third in the first row, working the ribbing as instructed.

Same for the wrists, I picked up the recommended amount of stitches and worked straight for a bit less than the pattern called for.

And voilà, a warm sweater for these cold, stormy, windy and damp days. I have to say the yarn keeps moisture away. I do not think it would work under heavy rain though, but it is working surprisingly well under a coat of light sprinkling !

A project with a lot of you in it, as I like them, as I gather joy and happiness from ☀️💛
