Stashquisitions : Filature Fonty

Are you preparing for Christmas ? I am, I need to start now. I have a full time job in academia, I won’t be ready if I do not start soon 🙂

My eldest son had asked for a scarf for a very long time, I never really got to it. We talked again about it a few days ago, and I decided I was going to knit one for him for Christmas. He wanted a black one, I declined, my eyes are not the ones they used to be.. So we agreed on grey. My second son was also happy with the idea, he asked for either white or blue. I went with blue, white being a bit more .. difficult to maintain..

I had been wanting to order from La filature Fonty for a couple years now, without real projects in mind. That was the perfect opportunity as the scarf pattern I will be using for both of them calls for the same yarn weight and needles size. I choose the scarf Silata I had my eyes on since I bought the Ensemble book from Marie-Amélie Designs. It is a bit confusing, if you want to buy the pattern without buying the book, it goes by the name Silene 🙂

I will be using Fonty Polaire, a 50% Baby Alpaca 50% wool, in both grey and blue, I think they will like it, that the scarfs will fit their style and wardrobe and will keep them warm.

My youngest son does not use scarfs so he asked for an orange beanie. I chose Fonty Ambiance (100% wool) and Kidopale (70% kid mohair 30% polyamide) to knit the Hiberknitting Hat from Stephen West. Holding one strand of wool with one strand of mohair makes a lovely fabric that I experimented for the first time with the Fresh Peonies shawl and loved it. I also think he will enjoy the softness and warmth, as much as the happy colour that Gaye Glasspie, also known as ggmadeit or The Iconic Orange Lady would hopefully approve 🙂

As I was on the site, I sneaked a Sari skein made from recycled Sari silk from India. Reminds me of some Knit Collage effects, I know need to find a use for it. I usually buy yarn with a pattern in mind or an intention. I sometimes end up knitting something else, but I do not buy yarn without a purpose or I would overspend.. I sorta want to make a colour work with that one, we’ll see 🙂

Stashquisitions : TréLiz Psyche Merino And Silk

Found this gorgeous and amazingly smelling yarn from TréLiz in their Psyche base (50% Merino, 50% Silk, Fingering weight) for a future Slipstravaganza Shawl from Stephen West. Left is Deep End, right is Ice Sky, both out of stock right now. I found the two additional color ways for the shawl this morning, more to come !

If you are sensitive to smells or allergic, better know their yarn comes after being soaked in essential oils. Alternatively, you can soak the skeins in cold water for 10 minutes and hang them to air dry before you use them (as per their recommandations).

Cannot wait to cast on. I do have several other projects in progress, I am not good at multitasking my knitting. So may be for this summer vacation ? Will be perfect to be finished by next Fall.

Stashquisitions : La Bien Aimée Merino Singles and Mohair Silk

Thank you La Bien Aimée, my order arrived a couple days ago 🙂

Four skeins of Merino Singles (Air Guitar, Fiori, Sosu, The North) and three skeins of Mohair Silk (Winterfell) for a future Sorrel Sweater from Wool And Pine, fading the four Merino in that order, held together with the Winterfell Mohair.

Choosing the colours was not easy, looked OK from the website, and now I am not sure about Fiori going with the three others. I really want the pops from Air Guitar in the yoke. I may look if I have enough for a three color fade or if I need to shop again, or if I end up using Fiori in this project.

What do you think ?
